AHCA Mourns the Passing of Julian Read

The AHCA is mourning the loss of a longtime supporter and friend, Julian Read, who passed away Saturday, May 8 at age 93.

During his public relations career, Read worked on the presidential campaigns of Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and of course, John Connally.

Read was a member and longtime friend of the AHCA. On Feb. 2, 2018 he joined Luci Baines Johnson and author Monte Akers to talk about the history of the Driskill Hotel, the panel discussion for that year’s Angelina Eberly Luncheon. He shared his oral history with AHCA in 2017 and in 2019, he helped underwrite Michael Barnes’ Waterloo Press book, Indelible Austin III.

Julian Read touched everyone’s hearts and his friendliness and always sharp mind were matched by his many later years of seeming immortal.
