AHCA Celebrates Winners, Honorees at Annual Meeting

The AHCA closed out its fiscal year at the 44th AHCA Annual Meeting May 7, 2023, at the Austin Central Library.

There were several highlights, including the election of the 2023-2024 AHCA Board of Directors and the transfer of presidency of the organization from Kent Collins to Charles Peveto, an architectural historian at the Texas Historical Commission who has devoted his professional career and private life to the historic preservation of Austin’s historic resources, including parks, bridges, and the arts. Peveto has served for many years as member of the AHCA Board of Directors, including several years as chair of the popular Angelina Eberly Luncheon, leading it to new records. He also took a leadership role in production of the AHCA Annual Meeting and in reactivating the Katherine Drake Hart Award competition.

The Annual Meeting is also the time to honor those who contributed oral histories to the AHCA and Austin History Center. You can read about the 2022 honorees here.

Two AHCA board members, Mary Kahle and Ben Foster, were named AHCA Volunteers of the Year. Kahle is chair of the AHCA Oral History Committee and Foster led the effort to produce the Our Austin Sound event, Women of Antone’s, this past March.

Linda Quintanilla won Volunteer of the Year for the Austin History Center.

The 44th AHCA Annual Meeting wrapped up with a birthday party reception commemorating the 90th birthday of the 1933 Library Building, which today is home of the Austin History Center.
